10 Things I’ve Learned in 10 years as a Creative Entrepreneur
NUMBER SEVEN: Small Business is about the STORY
Small business is about the STORY. The real one. Embellishments that make it prettier than it is are harmful. But perhaps more important these days: don’t make things sound worse than they are to be more “relatable.” Authenticity as a marketing ploy ceases to be authentic. Don’t cover up the dirt OR the sparkles. Warning, if you share the REAL story, haters gonna hate. Dirt: Well that’s painful. Sparkle: But we move on. (This picture is to the haters. Hehe. :)
To share your REAL story, it’s helpful to actually know it. Sounds obvious but most people don’t. It takes TIME to connect to who you really are and the story you’re really telling with your life and your work. But your REAWhat’s the real story I’m trying to tell with MY life and work? I’m still learning and growing into it, but here is my best description:
The sun sets on all styles. But it rises again. I love to be a part of the rising. The new day. The new life. The reviving, life-giving, purpose-infusing process of making the old new again.
Knowing this is what keeps the creativity flowing. This is my story. My passion. My WHY. I hope to keep knowing and growing into this story and whatever form it may take. From gardens and homes, to fashion and jewelry, to people and their purpose-seeking souls, I hope to continue telling the story of beauty rising from the ashes.
